The Effects of Smartphone Usage Levels, Health Literacy, and Self-Efficacy on Self-Care Agency in an Elderly Community Population

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study aims to examine the relationships between smartphone usage levels, health literacy, self-efficacy, and self-care agency in an elderly community population and to identify their effects on the elderly population¡¯s self-care agency.
Methods: The study participants included the elderly attending a senior academy and senior welfare centers in N City. Data were collected for the period from August 5, 2020 to September 10, 2020. Data analysis was conducted by using frequency and percentage, mean and SD, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis by means of the SPSS 25.0 Program.
Results: Variables that had a significant effect on the self-care agency of the participants included self-efficacy(¥â=.521, p<.001) and female(¥â=-.176, p=.006) of general characteristics. This regression model exhibited good fit and the explanatory power was 43.2%.
Conclusions: Based on the findings, self-efficacy was identified as the principal variable influencing the self-care agency of the elderly population considered in this study.
